Plein Air to Studio: Painting the Southwestern Landscape with Peggy Immel

About the workshop

Skill level: Beginner through advanced

Materials used: Oil and pastel

The workshop will focus on gathering material in a plein air setting for a studio painting and then painting a larger studio painting from the materials gathered during the first two days.

We will spend the first two days painting sketching and photographing outside. The last three days will be spent primarily in the studio creating a studio painting with the information gathered during the first two days.

There will be demonstrations in oil each day and Powerpoint presentations as needed. Each participant will receive ample and supportive individual coaching and critique.

Handouts will include a course schedule and written material about the topics covered. The workshop will be taught in oil but artists who are skilled in their medium other than oil would be welcome.

The how and why of creating landscape paintings from life and in the studio. Join internationally known, award-winning artist and member of the Plein Air Painters of America for an inspiring and insightful painting workshop. Focusing on new concepts for plein air and studio painting. Learn to visualize the landscape in unique and exciting new ways while honoring traditions of the past.

Lorenzo is well known for his patience and articulate lessons that will awaken your artistic vision. His workshops utilize the visual approaches of shape, value, edges, line, and color. The workshop will offer plenty of individual attention, daily demos, and group discussions in relaxed and inspiring settings.

About Lorenzo

Lorenzo Chavez was born and raised in the southern most point of the Rockies in New Mexico. His first inspirations and foundation as a young artist were formed by the local landscape and the art history in New Mexico. Lorenzo now makes his home in Parker, Colorado and uses this location as a base to travel and paint the American West and Southwest.

Using pastel and oil mediums, his hope is to carry on the art traditions of American painters such as the Taos Society of Artists and the American Impressionists.
