About the Workshop

Skill level: Beginner and Up

Materials used: Soft Pastel

Do you want to draw people to YOUR painting from across the room?

Do you find yourself getting lost in the details and losing the overall impact of your idea?

No matter the style of your mark making, simplifying design and value structure will strengthen your painting and keep the viewer engaged longer.

Lets dive into the power of values and composition in this three day studio workshop.

It all starts with you! I send out a pre-workshop questionnaire that let’s me get to know a bit about YOU and your journey, and helps me to create a curriculum that is based on the collective and the individual.

Starting with a power point presentation geared to inspire creativity, we then will work through timed exercises to deepen our understanding of design, values and color.

Day two and three will be a combination of plein air and studio work, depending on weather and the collective needs of the class. I will demonstrate my plein air process and studio process, and will have one on one time at your easel.

Day four, we are back in the studio painting. And I will have a private critique/question session with each artist based on the questionnaire answers and our time together during the week.

My goal is to be a conduit for your creativity while we work on a deeper understanding of the foundational principles of picture making together.
